General information

Paddleboarding

The headland offers paddlers a variety of options from smooth river paddling, to quiet and challenging lagoon areas or paddling along the miles of beaches. The northern part of Cavallino-Treporti is crossed by several canals with relatively little traffic. Here, as on the Sile River in the east, you can paddle comfortably and explore nature and the local nature reserves. With a bit of luck, you find good conditions for surfing or downwinding along the endless beaches. If all that isn't enough, you can explore Venice and its surrounding islands by paddle board starting from Treporti or Punta Sabbioni.

Swimming

All summer vacationers are guaranteed to find a suitable place to lie down along 13 kilometers of fine sandy beach. There are also countless bars, restaurants, playgrounds, sports fields and training areas along the coast.

Dog beaches can be found on the beach of Ca’Ballarin, at Punta Sabbioni and on the beach of Cavallino.

Between May and October the average water temperature is at least 18°C, in August it can even climb to 25°C. The maximum temperatures are around 22°C in May and October and sometimes hit an incredible 29°C in August.

In addition, many campsites also offer large swimming areas and sometimes impressive water parks. However, these are only accessible to their own camping guests. These campsites include the Camping Village Cavallino, the Sant’Angelo Village, the Dei Fiori Camping Village and the Camping Village Garden Paradiso.

If you want to experience water action away from the beaches, you can let off steam in the neighboring Lido di Jesolo in the Caribe Bay theme park:

Worth seeing

Everywhere inland you can find so-called telemetric towers, which were used, among other things, during the world wars as observation posts, telecommunications towers and for calculating distances. Many of them can be easily reached by bike.

Also the now abandoned forts of Cavallino-Treporti contribute to the region being a sprawling open-air museum. This open-air museum, consisting of over 200 military buildings, is also advertised and made accessible to tourists as Via dei Forti - the road of the fortresses.

Of course Venice is one of the sights of the Venetian lagoon. From Punta Sabbioni you can take the ship to the lagoon town and arrive there fast and inexpensively. If you are already there, you have the option of taking part in a guided highlights tour, which takes you, for example, to the Doge's Palace and to St. Mark's Basilica.

The islands of Murano and Burano are also worth a day trip. Burano is known for its colorful house facades, while Murano is considered the glassblowing capital. Both can also be reached from Punta Sabbioni.

Extra Tips

A unique experience is to rent a bike and explore the entire headland including Jesolo, Punta Sabbioni and parts of the Venetian lagoon. The network of cycle paths is sensational and new - work on it was still ongoing in the summer of 2023. It's also easy to travel with children because the landscape is flat and car drivers are extremely respectful of cyclists.

There are three weekly markets in the region, which take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Every day you can stock up on fresh food, clothing, jewelry and souvenirs at a different location in Cavallino-Treporti.

In the five nature reserves nature lovers will find pleasant retreats. To provide information and raise awareness, there is also an environmental education center, which is open to everyone in summer. You can also enjoy the entire lagoon, including its protected areas, for great paddling tours if you behave respectfully towards the fauna and flora.

Cavallino's event highlight takes place every year at the end of August, is even mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records and is called Beach on Fire. Ten stations along the 13 kilometers of beach are equipped with fireworks and then ignited synchronously. The entertaining fireworks spectacle attracts approximately 200,000 spectators each year. Even the ships lie off the coast to admire the play of colors.
