Hungarian athlete fails the transatlantic crossing by SUP

Ungarischer Sportler scheitert an der Transatlantiküberquerung mit einem SUP

Gábor Rakonczay completes transatlantic crossing after near-death experience.

After six arduous days, Hungarian extreme athlete Gábor Rakonczay completed the world's first attempt to cross the Atlantic on a cabin-less stand-up paddle board.

According to his original plan, it would have taken him two months to complete the 5,200-kilometer route once he left the Canary Islands. But the decision to embark on such an endeavor turned out to be much more difficult than planned, and the sea was unmerciful.

On his first night, Rakonczay found he couldn't sleep at all, and the cold waves pounding his ship quickly soaked his clothes. By the fourth night he was hallucinating and the sea water was getting warmer and warmer.

At that moment, he realized something was wrong and decided to end his journey. After the rescue attempts by boat were stopped by the high waves, Rakonczay was finally rescued by helicopter.
