Paddleboarding
At first glance, you might think that there isn't much paddling to do around Rivignano, as there are only two notable bodies of water in the immediate vicinity - the rivers Tagliamento and Stella. Anyone who has experienced both will know that this is already a lot. One is the main artery of Friuli, the other a delicate river barely more than 40 km long. Both rivers have completely different characteristics and unique shore landscapes, both are great SUP waters for experienced paddlers, at the ends of which the Adriatic Sea appears in all its glory.
Swimming
The Tagliamento and the Stella are not bathing areas, so anyone who wants to splash around in their cool water does so at their own risk. Unfortunately, there are no other public pools in the immediate vicinity. The only officially approved bathing spots are the Marano Lagoon on its selected beaches and the beaches around the seaside resorts of Lignano and Bibione.
Worth seeing
The Villa Ortellio Savorgnan in Ariis is of literary-historical value, as a love drama is said to have taken place here around 1511, which later became the basis for Shakespeare's drama Romeo and Juliet. Today it is a venue.
There are also a number of small biotopes and ecological parks in the region. For example, a trout farm is operated at the Risorgive di Zarnicco biotope near Flambruzzo. Another four biotopes are known under the name Terra di Risorgive under the patronage of four neighboring municipalities, which also regularly host events related to nature.
Dating back to the 13th century, the Castello di Flambruzzo is located directly by the Stella River and is an architectural masterpiece. The park and the facades as well as the stylishly furnished halls and rooms are a wonderful feast for the eyes. You can rent the rooms yourself or book a guided tour.
Extra Tips
At the Ariis Aquarium, interested visitors can marvel at the freshwater fish of the regional rivers. There is also an open-air exhibition with a small bog, and both can be visited free of charge.
The Loner family runs their organic apple farm called Azienda Agricola Biologica Loner Carlo right by the river Stella. The fruit is mainly pressed into juice and processed into vinegar. The farm is always open except for a few weeks a year.
Cyclists have it easy in the region, as numerous cycle paths lead through the natural landscape of the Stella River. From the well-known Alpe-Adria Cycle Path, you can also cycle to the Stella by taking a small detour.
A combined bike & boat experience is offered by the regional tourist association. From the village of Precenicco by the Stella River you cycle to Marano Lagunare and from there take a boat into the lagoon. More regional tours and experiences can be found online.
