General information

Paddleboarding

In addition to the centrally located Soline Bay you can explore the island's impressive stone coast from the water. Towards the north you paddle straight ahead and with a bit of endurance you can go all the way to the Krk Bridge, which connects the mainland with the island. In the opposite direction - to the south - the peninsula around Šilo offers romantic and varied paddling tours. Even paddling tours over to the mainland are offered from Šilo, they lead a maximum of three kilometers across the open sea. You can also paddle to the Petrinja Caves and further.

Swimming

The stretch of coast between Rudine in the north and approximately Supovica Beach in the south offers well over 20 km of shoreline, and thus countless opportunities to enjoy the warm water of the Croatian Adiratic Sea.

The center of bathing pleasure is certainly the picturesque Soline Bay, which offers a spacious and uncrowded bathing area with sand and pebble beaches. Around the small coastal villages of Klimno, Cizici, Meline and Soline there are small beaches with the usual infrastructure. The northern stretches of shore also offer excellent natural bathing spots, which can be reached from the road via footpaths. Also worth mentioning are the “Wild Beach” Loncarica and Slivonjska Beach near Rudine, about two kilometers north of the Soline Bay.

Above all, best known is the sandy beach of Meline with its black healing mud, which has a positive effect on bone pain and joint diseases. Bathers come from everywhere to take the mud out of the ground and rub it all over their bodies. People in a black and grey mud cover are part of the bizarre scenery on the beach.

The bathing water in the bay is considered to be very clean, which is why the Soline pebbly beach has been boasting the Blue Flag since 2013, which also seals this fact.

Also the peninsula around the small village of Silo is well developed and not overcrowded despite its tourist offers. South of that you'll find a lot of lonely smaller bays and natural beaches without infrastructure, which can usually only be reached via gravel roads.

Worth seeing

Around Soline Bay and in its hinterland you will find lots of interesting sights, which are clearly mapped out in an overviw map by the local touist office.

It doesn't matter if you want to visit the Cave Biserujka in Rudine, the Island of Škojć, or if you would like to discover the countless ruins - there is a lot to see in the north-east of Krk.

Extra Tips

The guys from Paddletour offer a number of interesting guided SUP tours in the Bay of Soline. You can, for example, paddle from Soline to the mainland. This is an ideal opportunity, especially for newcomers to the sea, to get to grips with the waves in a well-supervised manner. A little further south you can paddle from Risika to the Petrinja Caves and snorkel there.

If you would like to sit in a kayak for a change, you can take a kayak tour from Voz Bay to the Krk Bridge and the island of St. Marko. You will enjoy the unique and almost lifeless karst landscape of both islands with a view of the 70 m high and 1.4 km long bridge. Of course, you can tackle the whole thing on your own or book it including equipment and a tour guide.

The taxi boat  takes people from Šilo to the opposite mainland within eight minutes, where they land in the small town of Crikvenica. This is not only fast, but also quite cheap (3 € per trip/ as of 2022).

Divers feel they are in good hands in Soline, because here you can dive down to the cargo ship wreck Peltastis which sank in January 1968 and is now standing upright at 33 m depth.

During a walk around the bay of Soline you can get to know the villages that are close together and treat yourself to a drink or a good meal here and there by the water. The distance from Čižići to Klimno is about 3.5 km, which can be covered by the road or over beaches.

Immortelle flowers are versatile medicinal plants that are also used to treat bruises, muscle tension and sports injuries. On Krk cosmetic products and brandy are made from it. They can be tasted and tried out at an immortelle farm near Soline Bay.
