Paddleboarding

If the wind conditions are right, the region offers a truly varied paddling paradise. You can paddle along the kilometer-long coastline around Krk and Punat, passing by dreamy bays and beaches. If you just stay in the town area of Krk, it's just as much of an experience as, for example, cruising along the natural Prniba peninsula. In contrast to the coast, the Bay of Punat offers calmer water and a paddling feeling like on a lake. If you want to try a very special adventure, paddle a few kilometers across the sea to the next uninhabited island and enjoy an unsurpassable natural experience in solitude, including beach caves and rocky cliffs.

Swimming

The area between and around Krk and Punat has more than 15 km of coastline and a corresponding number of opportunities to enjoy the sea on official beaches and hidden natural bathing spots.

The town of Krk counts several bathing spots and beaches, but the much smaller Punat is also a generous seaside resort.

In the region you can find natural bathing spots under pine trees, between rocks and in small bays. Especially the Prniba Peninsula has a lot to offer by the sea and along the bay of Punat - far more than what is shown on maps. The northern and western part of the bay of Punat is also well developed and offers bathers a few small beaches with infrastructure as well as a number of natural bathing spots.

South of Punat lovers of nudism find a great place on Konobe Beach and the adjacent nudist camp. The comprehensive sports offer is flanked by the excellent quality of the beach, its infrastructure and the water (Blue Flag).

The (swimming) season on the island starts at the beginning of May and, depending on the weather, can last well into October.

Worth seeing

The winding and romantic old town of Krk is worth a visit at any time of the day and there is something new to discover around every corner. The town's center is full of small and large sights. You can also take a guided tour giving you a lot of insights and information about the old town.

With a visit to Krk's aquarium and terrarium rainy days can be shortened in an entertaining way. From April to October you can come by daily starting at 10 a.m. and marvel at the 20 aquariums and 18 terrariums.

Right next to the road, at the roundabout near Dunat, stands the small Church of St. Dunat, which was probably built between the 9th and 12th centuries. The cruciform church only measures around 80 m² and its interior can be viewed through the iron gate at the entrance.

The Island of Košljun with its Franciscan monastery can be reached via taxi boat or ship. However, the shuttles only run on request or as required - there are no regular daily arrival and departure times. It is therefore best to reserve in advance or to talk to the providers on the quay in Punat asking them what options are available on the day in question. On the island you also have to pay the entry to the museum, so that you can calculate a total of around € 11 (as of 2022) for the roundtrip transfer and the monastery museum. Always ask in advance whether the return trip is included in the price.

An walk through Punat pays off, because the narrow alleys and streets enchant with their round arches and cute terraces. The small community counts some 1800 inhabitants and you should also go an a little discovery walk away from the promenade with its parks and sculptures.

Extra Tips

For anyone who likes to train under pine trees and with a view of the sea the outdoor gym of the Activity Center Krk is the place to be. In addition to personal training and group sessions, you can also carry out your own fitness program here. The calisthenics park next door is available to everyone free of charge.

In the town of Krk there is always something to experience - whether free yoga sessions, culinary events or music. Everyone will find the right program here.

The 150 km long Camino Krk pilgrimage route, which in seven daily stages (19 - 23 km daily) takes you around the island and to the neighboring village of Kornic, begins in the town of Krk. Along the way you experience the historical, cultural and sacred heritage of the island and can indulge in the beautiful scenery. There is also a pilgrim's pass and a pilgrim's certificate to be awarded for each completed island tour.

All summer long you can enjoy numerous concerts at Medane Beach south of Punat. DJs also regularly play their records here and you can sip a cocktail right on the beach or just party in the water.

If you don't have any diving equipment with you or if you haven't had any diving experience at all, you can go diving in the underwater park between Punat Beach and Punta Debij Beach with a special diving helmet. Of course under professional guidance and with maximum safety.

A circular hike from Krk to Punat Bay across the Prniba Peninsula takes about two hours (8 km). Along the marked hiking trail 33 there are a number of turnoffs to secluded bathing spots that you will not find in any travel guide. The hiking map for the entire island or for individual areas is available as a PDF download or as a printed version in the information or tourist offices of many communities.

The surrounding islands can be easily reached by boat. If exploring the uninhabited island of island of Plavnik is not enough for you, you can also join a 5-island tour or choose the tour destination yourself.

An adventurous kayak tour leads over 10 km, going from Medane Beach to Stara Baška and past countless hidden bays and imposing rock formations.

In the bay of Punat you can burn off calories while wakeboarding and then relax in the surrounding bars.
