General information

Paddleboarding

This tranquil spot on the lake’s northwest shore offers plenty of opportunities to set out on SUP tours from its public beaches and open lake access points, away from private property. A significant portion of the local shoreline is densely overgrown with reeds. What appears to be an obstacle from land turns out to be an idyllic setting once you’re on the water. There are also countless footpaths through the reeds leading down to the water, which are used primarily by fishermen.

For example, you can paddle east or west from the town center along the shore as part of a short loop. If you have more time and energy, you can also paddle along the shore to the neighboring villages. In any case, you’re only allowed to paddle a maximum of 500 meters from the shore by SUP. Crossing the lake is prohibited.

Swimming

The water temperature in Lake Balaton averages 22°C to 24°C in midsummer, with maximum temperatures of around 28°C recorded on very hot days. The central and best-known beach in Révfülöp is Szigeti Beach, a spacious natural beach with a sandy bottom particularly suitable for families with children and featuring several playgrounds as well as gastronomy. During the peak season, open-air movie screenings are occasionally held here. In addition, there are the smaller beaches Manci vízisport kölcsönző Császtai and Révfülöp Napfény, as well as several freely accessible sections of the shore that often run along small footpaths.

Worth seeing

If you’d like to explore relics of the past, you can visit the Pálos Kolostorrom ruins, for example. They were once a medieval Pauline monastery in Salföld. Or you can treat yourself to the fantastic view of Lake Balaton from the Csobánc vára ruins.

The Egry József Memorial Museum in Badacsonytomaj honors the life's work of the famous Hungarian painter. He became known as the "Painter of Lake Balaton and Light," and the museum impressively showcases how he captured the unique atmosphere and play of light on Lake Balaton in his works.

The charming Badacsonytomaji Tájház local history museum offers visitors a rich collection of artifacts, such as fishing nets, traditional furniture, and local cultural relics, which provide insights into the lives of fishermen and winemakers.

The RevArt Gallery is located right on the shore of Lake Balaton and, during the summer, displays paintings, watercolors, and prints by Hungarian artists. It is connected to the library and the local history museum and offers free admission as well as rotating exhibitions.

On the other hand, the wine cellar museum provides information about the region’s wine traditions and cellars. The adjacent memorial park commemorates the victims of World War II and is a pleasant place for a quiet stroll.

Hegyestű is a basalt volcano in the Balaton Uplands that serves as a geological visitor center showcasing the region’s volcanic history. From its summit, it offers a panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding basins.

If you're ever in the area, you should check out one of Hungary's most famous wine regions. The Badacsony wine region entices visitors with outstanding wines and breathtaking panoramic views, offering the perfect combination of wine culture, picturesque scenery, and a wide range of recreational activities.

At the Pátzay Winery, visitors can taste premium wines from the Badacsony region and learn more about the winemaking process. The experience also includes a tour of the vineyard and cellar, located not far from the large lake.

The annual Balaton Crossing Balaton-átúszás takes place in July or August and is one of Hungary’s largest mass-participation sporting events. Thousands of swimmers and stand-up paddlers set out from Révfülöp to cross the lake, arriving 5 km later in the town of Balatonboglár on the southern shore.

Cycling fans, on the other hand, can participate in the Balatonfondo in spring or simply watch it from the side of the road. Since 2026, the event features new routes and is suitable for riders of all skill levels.
